After Cayden held the responsibility of defending children in court, he learned that many youth have low awareness of their nations’ laws, and he was compelled to change this for other kids, like those he defended, across every inch of the planet.
Cayden Brown is an American child rights defender and award-winning activist, acclaimed for his impact on juvenile justice at a notably young age. His work has been featured in Forbes and TIME, and his voice heard before the world’s largest platforms, including the United Nations.
He leads [us] as founder and CEO of The Trespass Project, a global nonprofit that works to help children around the world understand their nations’ legal systems, empowering them to boldly seize positions of power.
At just 16, Cayden was appointed as a Juvenile Defender for Oakland County’s Teen Court, working alongside a team of attorneys and judges to reroute youth from the traditional criminal process and disrupt cycles of recidivism. He earned his first formal legal credential from Harvard Law School, studying the interplay of race and constitutional law through America’s Reconstruction era. He has served on over a dozen advisory boards, leading international child rights research and policy discussions. His leadership has earned him seats as the youngest voice—on the United Nations Youth Peace Panel, at the U.S. Department of Justice, and as legal lecturer for civil rights icon Colin Kaepernick and Nike’s Know Your Rights Camp.
His boldness in addressing world leaders positioned him as a defining figure in child rights—all before reaching adulthood. Honored by a former U.S. President with the 2020 Educational Achievement Award, named the youngest Youth Justice Advocate Awardee by the Michigan Center for Youth Justice, and recognized among the Top 100 National Black Lawyers, Cayden continues to make history protecting children at the highest levels worldwide.
